Personal statement:

Diabetes is a major chronic disease these days. However, the impact of diabetes on future health and life expectancy is largely underestimated. Especially the effects of diabetes and its associated vascular dysfunction on brain disease like dementia and depression are not elucidate yet. Within The Maastricht Study, a longitudinal population-based cohort study, my research focuses on the role of early vascular dysfunction in relation to brain diseases in type 2 diabetes.
